Slaneesh Dreadnaughts

Am I wrong, or can Slaneesh dreadnaughts be made into the nastiest assault monsters ever? I don't play Chaos, but I was reading through the codex, give 'em and extra CCW, the mark so they have a Warp Amp, a Heavy flarmer (to upgrade to a Doom siren). And give them a blasphemous rune. You then have a model with 4 attacks, hits on initiative against targets in cover, and enemies are -4 to their lead checks!!!!!!!! Holy crap, you'll be able to wipe out huge sqauds!

True.. if you ever get there.

A single lascannon shot still has a 50/50 chance of penetrating such a beast, and it's obscenely expensive.
I find dreadnoughts far too inneficient. Play me with my 3 pred list and I guarantee its gone first turn, usually I can blow up 2, sometimes a list will even take 3, then they're usually cheap, and I can take them all.

I would die to see a dreadnought like that go against a space marine devastator squad or something similiar.
I take a dreadnought in my nurgle 1000 and 1500 point lists. it is alone in my 1000, and only a rhino accompanies it in the 1500. I always take mutated hull and parasitic possesion to keep it alive. It has 2 purposes: killing 2+ save enemies (plasma cannon tears up some terminators) and drawing fire from my assualting marines and lord/Lt. I find them effective, and very cool. In my opinion, a well painted dreadnought is in the top 3 coolest chaos models.
I think the Doom Siren would be a waste on a Dreadnought. Most weapons that would threaten it (specifically powerfists) would be going last any ways.

But yeah, warp amp and blasphemous rune are pretty expensive. My emperor's children dread is very basic, with mutated hull, extra armor, smoke launchers and an autocannon, runs about 148 points and draws attention away from my rhinos long enough for them to do what they need to do.
Oddly enough, Tzeentch dreads are better than anyone's but maybe khornes dreads for HtH. Mutated Hull, Corsucating Flame and 2x CCW with smoke to get there.

Yes, but if you took that army, I would break out my Ork army. 120 boys, a warboss and big mek. thats it. All those precious Lascannons would be wasted. It's all comparative.

I find dreadnoughts great. you can deploy them behind cover, then on your first turn can move out and shoot. providing this, you should always get first turn.
When it comes to dread noughts its the old Law of unequal returns. If you play with a CC army take Three of the things. While the opponent is worrying about your fast moving deamon prince, raptors, flying possessed etc your dreadnoughts can lumber up the field all together untouched.

Your oppenent has two options.A: deploy all of his devestators (or equivelent) against your dreadnoughts in which case the rest of your army reaches his ranks unharmed
OR B: he ignores them and goes for the bulk of your army which allows the dreadnoughts to wreak hovac in the later stages of the game.

Dreadnoughts don't need to be obcenly expensive from memory from a WE army i wrote up: 75pts basic
+15pts extra CC weapon
+25Pts Destroyer.

115ptsx3 (that all your heavy slots but I wasn't going to use them on anything else) =345pts for a nasty squad of dreadnoughts that has alot of attacks (15 I believe but I can't remember).

This is literally from memory only used it once.
