I play eldar...I have a falcon with harlequins, wave serpent with dire avengers and some pathfinders...the demonhunter player i play most often just decided he was taking orbital strikes...um knowing him hes taking the lance strike...does anyone have any idea how you can counter that without my entire army ending up as mush by turn 2

thanks

Ummm... kill everything?
Not even joking, daemonhunters lists are small and HQ heavy. They also tend towards lacking large amounts of ranged anti-tank fire. Once his one hit wonder lance strikes hit you, you're for the most part home free. Your job is much easier when he's missing 100 more points worth of units.

Yes, but...

It will indeed crash down every shooting phase of his for the rest of the game. However, it is also unable to target anything but the original terrain peice. Once you see what building/forest/whatever he has it keyed to, use that famous eldar speed to move away from it.

I don't believe he has to tell you before the game starts, thought I think it says something like "plot where teh orbital strike will hit before deployment, but after deployment zones have been determined". So No, I don't think he has to tell you and therefore you have no way of knowing till the first one hits.

Cheers,
Scott

Right

He is correct, he does not need to tell you where he plotted the blast, but he does have to write it down.

You could just stay away from terrain entirely. It can't hit you then.

Really, I don't see how it is "slagging" you. It is a single ordnance blast template, with a huge scatter distance (2d6" unless it rolls "hit", then 1d6"). A single ordnance blast shouldn't be annihilating enough of your army to warrant game-breaking destruction.

Heck, with all the times I've taken an Orbital Strike, I've barely killed any enemies with it.

Yup, if your opponent wants to play that game then load up your army with units that want to be fighting in his board half. It takes a brave or foolish general to plot orbital strikes where he might go so chances are they will be keyed to your deployment zone, take an army of catapults, melee specialists and mobile firepower and once your 12" from your deployment zone they are effectively wasted points for him.
At this point he's short on points, short on heavy support and should be fodder for your masters of war to run roughshod over.
