Hi Folks,
I was just wondering if someone out there knew how to get a good cover of yellow over shadow grey. I am trying to paint up my Blood Claws - spray painted undercoat of Chaos Black, spray painted next layer of Shadow Grey (worked like a charm) but then when it came to putting the yellow over the grey, things started to fall apart. At the moment the yellow is looking streaky with lots of yellow in some parts and very little in others.
Does this mean that I would need to paint the shoulder pads white first before putting on the yellow - at the moment I am up to two coats of the yellow and still going.
By the way, I apologise if this is the wrong forum for this question.
Cheers,
PolarBear

This probably should be in the painting forum.

For shoulderpads, I leave them off when priming the miniature. Prime the shoulderpads white. Paint the mini, the attach the shoulderpads and paint them yellow. Paint the trim grey afterwards.

Since you probably have them on already, paint them with a medium brown color first, like bestial brown. Make sure the paint is thinned and use a thin, even coat, Then paint the yellow over the brown. You'll probably still have to do two coats of yellow. Concentrate on thin coats and try to paint in different directions after each coat. Make sure each coat is completely dry before starting the next. You can paint them white first, but white is just as hard to get even. If you want a brighter yellow, use brown, then white, and finally yellow.

I wanted to paint them yellow for Blood Claws apparently like to be yellow and red on their shoulderpads (from the Codex) and the transfers for them are red - hence the pads needing to be yellow. I know that I can make up my own color scheme but I am just starting with them and like the look of the ones in the book - later on I can diversify.

Thanks alot for the tips. I am sorry, I did try to find the painting forum but was unable to find it - must be my poor eyesight or poor English :) Cheers again.
