Starting Black Legion

Alright, I am going to start a black legion army since I couldn't really choose a specific legion to do. My usual opponets are Tau, IG, and SMurfs. What should I get?

My gaming style is getting close and rapid firing the heck out of enemy squads and assualting if need be. I plan on having 2-3 CSM squads w/ botlers and meltaguns or plasma guns, a havoc squad with 4 of the same weapon (most likely ML or Autocannon) and a predator if I have the points. I still have to figure what I want for my lord although I want him to be very good in cc and maybe w/ a retinure of chosen termies. Any suggestions?

PS-these models will most likely be in a 1500 pt. list

I too would be interested in what's to say. I'm looking at the same thing as well. My usual opponents are the same cept swap IG for necrons.

I would suggest getting a defiler since they seem amazing for their points.

The problem I heard with the defiler is that they're to easy to destroy. Especially since I play against an IG player who always fields at least 1 basilisk and 2 lemans and a Tau player who alwayst at least fields a broadside and several crisis w/ plasma and melta equviliants. I think any tank I have will be gone in the first couple of turns.

To start off get a Daemon Lord and 2 Chaos Space Marine squads. Then maybe a heavy support and more troops. After that you can start building on elites and fast attack. Lots of it's personal taste so look through the codex and see what you like. Read through the forums and tacticas and then if you want post a army in the army list section for people to give you advice on.

Jumping into RF range of tau is not a good idea. You are much better off charging, than taking a few casualties then standing round like a lost person while they RF the hell out of you with those str5 guns...

Much better to get into cc as fast as possible, and watch them crawl away at the end. Same with IG.

If you're going for three troop-squads, make one of them assault. Few can survive a charge by CSM. One option that I find effective vs Tau and SMurfs is replacing the assault squad with a Khorne Berzerker squad if I got the points.

They tear SMurfs apart niceley with Khornate Chainaxes, and vs Tau, you only need the Champion and two more to reach CC to really dominate! (Especially if he keeps his units close togeather so you can sweep inte te next unit after crushing the first.

Btw, vs IG, forget AC's and ML's those Leman Russ tanks have a nasty tendency to ignore theese...

i think you should get a defiler. you can use it as a sponge and take all the hits, so you can move your chaos warriors up without heavy fire. also u sould think of marines with chainswords and bolt pistols because they are your best unit aginst tau and are really good aginst SMurfs and IG.

Hmm, I take a defiler for indirect fire and keep it behind a building or somthing. My other heavies are usually two dreads with parasitic posession - but that may change as i just recently picked up a predator (worth a try ennit mate).

Remember that all Chaos dreads have the two frenzy effects - and that you are far more likely to charge and get into CC if you are also using destroyer dreads (which I do).

I am going to bid on an army on ebay. It includes:
* 1 deamon Prince
* 5 chaos chosen terminators
* 14 posessed chaos space marines
* 3 Oblitorator cultists
* 2 masterpained aspiring champions
* 24 khorne berzerkers
* 10 bloodletters
* 5 raptors - one aspiring champion
* 2 chaos landraiders
* 1 kharn the betrayer
* 5 chaos bikes
* 1 abadon the despoiler

If I don't get this then I will most likely get:
2 Mega Forces
2 Predator Sprues to convert rhinos
Demon Prince

I plan to make my black legion with bezerker squads to get into cc and infiltrating CSM squads. My lord will be a DP with Bezerker Glaive for major cc support.

Wow, you are willing to put some cash into this

. Atm, I've gotten a lord, and an obliterator(older version). About to purchase a box of warriors and I have just won a lot on ebay for a defiler(39 US - Brand new.)

BTW you could consider the tzeentch, since you like to rapid fire, they have the slow and purposeful rule.

After I get the khorne part of my Black Legion done I will extend in to the other gods, namely Tzeentech and Nurgle. Hopefully in a couple of years I will have enough models to play a god specific legion if i want to.
