No it is not legal.

A sergeant may not be equipt with special or heavy weapons.

....In which case you'll have to make him a Veteran Sergeant...

Well, I recommend you give him a bolt pistol and chainsword like on the box your squad came in.
Give the flamer to one of the other guys.

Sorry man... But you're gonna have to follow the rulez if you wanna play with your minis.

My advice would be to buy the Codex and the rulebook before anything else. You won't regret it!

I can just picture the Archon with Splinter Cannon/Dark Lance... oohhh... good... ;)

anyway, the model sounded like a cool conversion, and I'm sorry you have to let it go. Good luck with your next projects!

The thing to remeber is that your squad leader is not allowed to carry any of the weaponry that is an upgrade for that squad, per the guys @ GW.
Depends on what army you play. A pack leader of Long fangs may have a plasma, melta-gun or flamer.

A bolter-flamer is not that hard to build.
1.) cut off the grip and lower section of the flamer up to the boxed section.
2.) trim off the sights and top detail of the bolt pistol.
3.) cut off the pistol barrel and the flamer outlet
4.) glue them back on in reversed positions

Congradulations, one bolte flamer. This is how I did it. The only actual model that comes with one is the SOB cannoness.
