Okay, so this is an experimental force I have ready, but sadly I can't playtest for quite a while (sucks being without my minis X|). That is why I decided to ask for your advice, I really would like to know soonish how well it would work. The strategy is below:

The idea is this: All battlesuits/broadsides deploy in as much cover as they possibly can, while the squads of firewarriors are kept in reserve. Piranhas wherever, preferably a little ahead of the others. Try to deploy second to keep broadsides particularly as far as you can from the bulk of the opposing force. When the battle begins little movement is needed except for the piranhas. Send them for a quick kamikaze strike on a unit of your choice. THis will serve two purposes, the first being to slow their advance and draw fire, the second being the obvious: more dead enemies. Use the nine broadsides to take out anything big your opponents may have. That's it for turn one. After that just try to cause as much death as you can, and deploy firewarriors whenever they are needed for objectives and added defense.

When the enemies draw closer in it it time to do something entirely backwards by Tau standards: hold the position (sort of). Have the battlesuits and broadsides fire their extensive number of short range weapons into the onslaught, retreating slowly if possible (railguns can be fired as well due to multi-tracker). The fire warriors and devilfish still retreat from this if applicable, but the combined fire of nine broadsides, a commander, and two bodyguards, should be enough to take down a massive infantry assault.

Last note: An idea I am considering is to give a ton of the upgrades I gave to my commander to an "uber unit" of broadsides, tell me what you think.

You need to reread your codex. Specifically:

Read up on how many hardpoints XV8s have.
