Does anyone have experience playing a straight Daemonhunters army, particulary one that uses mostly Grey Knights?

The Psycannon, Incinerator and Psycannon bolt upgrade seem aimed at the Tau's extensive use of Inv. saves. (Shield Ge. and Shield Drones) is there a good counter?

I know that since they are a very high cost/fewer models army so it would seem that the Tau have a points efficiency advantage. (i.e. 2 full FW squads vs 1 full Grey Knights squad).

If my sources are correct a grey knight costs 30 points and a Justicar 50 so a full squad is 320 points.

That fits 2 full fire warrior teams and another squad of 8!

Use Railrifles and Ion Cannons

The cost is 25pts per GK and 50 for the Justicar. I checked last night.

Is a lone XV8 Team Leader with TL Fusion Blasters Shield Gen. and HW Drone Controler a good Anti-Tank unit. Deep Strike close to land raider/monolith and blast away?

Ummm... shoot them? :p Seriously, i don't se ANY challenge in fighting DH, their stuff is just way to expensive and suffers plasma death like any other marines

sneak back up after u are done wiping out a squad and shoot you in the back.....

Really when fighting deamonhunters the key is staying together. Yes they will drop in and fire at you but they cant charge and they move very slowly across the board since they have no vehicles except a land raider unless they are using a inquisitor and some of those cheap stortroopers. Shoot them as they come and let the termies drop on you but once they have take the turn to focus everything at them so they die quickly. I wouldnt think they would be very difficult unless you let them get into close combat then all strategem is lost anyways.

I played against them 2 times!!!! its scary....you REALLY need to be a good dice thrower. I suck at throwing dice, so I had alot of bad luck. I played a 1000pt game last.

I had:

one leader (battle suite):
plasma gun
melta gun
multitracker HW
and some other junk

4 stealth suites (1markerlight)

3 broadsides

1 hammerhead (railgun, TL burst cannons, 4 seeker missles)
and some defensive picks

2 squads Fireworriors (one with 6 carbines)

8 gun drones (fast attack)



With this army i did ok. He had one squad of 10 grey knights reduced to 3 by the time the game ended and his imperial stormtoops were pretty messed up. He also had a Dread...this proved a thorn in my side....especially since he went first! He killed my Hammer head right away.

The broad sides proved to be my best friends. Unfortunatly....due to my VERY BAD rolles....I didnt hit as much as I was suppossed too, but still managed to kill plenty.

If I rolled better, he would have lost everything!!!!


the big issue with the Daemon Hunters are you have to roll to see them....which KILLS the Tau advantage of long range guns!

make SURE you go first to unleash the entire loadout and also roll well.

Ok, Daemonhunters are hard, but I think that you don't have to roll to see them, just be at most 56" away to see them. Maybe I am wrong though. But check the codex, just in case. :ph34r:

THe testing to see them sux, but you coould ask the demonhunuter if you could use the tau sniper, the rules are in another thread. With him you could kill his psycannons and incenerators fast.

Psycannons are pretty useless against Tau as if they ignore a shield generator save the still get their 3+/2+ saves from their Crisis/Broadside armour, they are only really effective against drones as they ignore the inv and armour saves of a shield drones. Shield drones are also quite rare, as not many people can use them and you can't buy "shield drones blisters"

I just pop off the guns and use that as a shield drone.
