Ok, i admit it, i am on a bit of a conversions MODing spree right now. I'm working on a command squad of which 3/4 people are slightly-to-extremely customized in unconventional ways.

After that i am gonna work on trying to turn a standard issue predator into a battle tank that might actually be fit to go to war (LRSeriesIII, feel free to start your realism and armored Cav. rant any time now) and also make it look like a tank decked out to be in a supporting role for my scout company i am working on (reads: light attack tank, lots of camo, etc.)

After that I am going to start working on expanding my scout company to more than my current 17 scouts. Since the scouts have limited numbers of non-close-combat troops, and since i hate close-combat at the gut level this means i am gonna have to make alot of extreme conversions to make a charging scout convert into a kneeling sniper taking aim for the kill shoot, not to mention the fact that i can't wait to get my hands on a chaos infantry-autocannon and reclaim it from its heretic ways to serve one of my scouts in stead of that damnable heavy bolter that looks cool until you realize you only get one varient.

All in all my actual goal is to have an army thats at least, say, 75% conversion on a basic armament swap level (granted giving a close combat scout an autocannon isn't exactly a straight forward gun swap...) and between 25%-50% extensively MODed conversions (for instance a sniper laying on the ground with rifle supported on a by-pod all mounted on an over-long bike base)

Because of my grand vision I am disquieted by the more subdued nature of the Conversions section of this forum’s line. I am therefore posting my intensions, rather than suggestions or questions, in an effort to spur some more spirited interchange of thought here.

Wish me luck.

And so, here are some of my ideas and current projects...

First, my command squad, oh my command squad.

It all started with a games day special edition captain that led me to want an escort group for my captain. I have always liked techmarines but thought they were a tad silly looking with that servo arm the way it is. Its like a damn fiddler crap that has to walk and work sideways because its jointed wrong.

Well, I fixed the design flaw in my Tec marine’s servo arm...

The Servo arm MOD of mine takes the basic back-pack and cuts it into 4 parts. First i separate the whole arm from the pack. Then I sever the uppermost 'fore-arm' that holds the main claw assembly. Then i remove the actual claw from the main claw assembly.

First I rotated the lower arm segment 90 degrees so that instead of moving in an arc in line with his 2 shoulders, the new plane of motion is front to back in line with his sight line, i positioned the arm at an angle such that it seems like the arm is reaching up and over his shoulder to get to something in front of him. I used some putty to rebuild the damaged and missing elements of the base arm's circular joint. i also pined it in place for good measure.

Next, take the upper arm assembly. In its original pose but rotated as described above the arm looks like its trying to grab the techmarine's genitals, and my techmarine doesn’t go for that sort of thing. I positioned the upper arm so that it was more or less parallel with the ground like the claw is now reaching for something infront of the techmarin instead of something right below him.

Finally the claw its self i rotated 90 degrees so it is parallel to the ground rather than perpendicular to it.

In addition to this i took lightning claws from a terminator, stripped them down to the gauntlets removing the arms and elbows and shoulders. Then pined them inplace of the existing power axe and fore arm (the oppisate of the axe is plastic and i used a plastic arm with forearm removed) and used putty to rebuild the mass lost to removing the proprietary terminator parts.

The last major part is i used a pewter DA shoulder pad, took an inch of jewlers chain strung from front corner of pad to back corner to mimic shoulder type military awards but with an industrial twist via chain. From the chain hangs a terminator honor's crux off the sergeant terminator's banner pole.

next to come, the sergeant's sword, and the medic's dual 'gangsta' pistols...

My sergeant is simply this guy:

With his's sword:
http://us.games-workshop.com/storefront/st...dual&code=8007A

the sword swap is basic, so i take it a step further. You'll notice the termy captains sword has a bit of an extra length of the handle on it. I take that, and another one of those crux honors from a termy sergeant's banner pole, and i use the terminator crux with the extra handle length to dreat an oversized pommel for the sword.

The medic is a basic plastic mk6 marine with medic pack. I stole some old school 2nd edition out-streched marine arms and cut off the hands. cut off regular fisted hands and glued them onto their respective arms, but skewed 90degrees, then the bolt pistols. I added putty to increase the shoulder-arm angle so the pistols aim away from the marine's center line rather then inwards.

I'll talk about my scout mod ideas latter, am tired for now.

My first scout sniper MOD was more of a quick proof of concept and practice with conversions more than a real efforted conversion, but i intend on making a quality version of this basic conversion which will be a bit more extensive and look more like a scout sniper and less like a gaurd sniper painted as a scout.

I used a vindicare assassin's longrifle for the sniper rifle (hey, nothing wrong with premade parts that work), i put the bypod off a scout's heavy bolter on the front of the sniper rifle.

For the main body i took a cachatan jungle Missle launcher model in the kneeling position and hooked him up to the rifle, its fairly straight forward but requires some tweaking. Also since i was planing on giving him a sniper cloack i figured i could cover up any rough spots at this stage of the conversion. In retro spect i should have played with putty and been more liberal in cutting up the arm molded on the rifle.

Now i also took a plastic marine shoulder pad, cut it down some, and glued it inplace 'backwards' and got something about the size and shape of a scouts shoulder pad. I only did this for the one side which i decided wouldn't be covered by the sniper cloaak.

Finnally I mounted the whole thing on a (40 mm?) round base that should be one size up from normal marine sized bases. I added some small rocks infront so it looked like the sniper was kneelng down, cocking his rifle while lining up a shot with his rifle supported by a rock pile and bi-pod.

This was my first miniature scale conversion and like i said was a proof of concept but it showed me the basic of how one can achieve a decent Mod with a little thought and careful bitz selection. My other mods have turned out much 'cleaner' than this one thanks to improved tools and understanding of conversions.

Huh?
Umm what exactly has your conversion to do with the title for this forum...
"this forum needs more traffic"?

Yeah, um, I'm not exactly a linear thinker, anyway The title was a general statement, the rest of it was an attempt to solve the problem mentioned in the title itself.

I'll see what i can do about the pictures, the MODs are all finished but there is still painting that needs doing.

I didn't use the terminator captain's hand, I actually cut between the winged hand-guard thing and the hand, and then cut again below the hand to get that precious 1/4 - 1/8 inch of sword handle. The sergeant's sword, hand, handle, and crux-pommel are 4 seperat parts in all.

When i glued it all together, that was a bit of a trick.

(and the existing pommel, in the form of that baby's skull had to go too. The Terminator crux pommel part of the MOD was actually a bit of a lark but it turned out well. And i have an earned respect for my new jewler's saw i used)

(why do marines seem to have a thing for sporting dead baby skulls on their helmets and guns?)

Must admit I haven't seen it. Seen other people's chaos guys though and realize there are many potentials for MODing parts.

I happen to like the ammo chain for the bolter type-thing personally
