Can a pychic hood cancel a power from an aspiring champion with the mark of tzeentch? It clearly states that they automatically pass any psychic test they are allowed to make. sO they never have to roll for the test to begin with.

yes, you can cancel the psychic power used by an asp. champ. of Tzeentch.

The hood allows you to cancel psychic powers that require a test. (That is why stuff like synapse creature and some of the Eldar Warlock powers cannot be negated.)

In the case of psychic powers used by the Asp. Champ. a test is required, but he automatically passes it. So as "Davesnotthereman" said, you proceed directly to dicing off to cancel it

Depends on the power. I believe psychic hoods can only cancel powers that require a test (doom bolt, mass mutation). As it says under the hood's description they are only used after the test has been made. Certain powers require no test however. Minor powers of Tzeentch for example state that no test is required. Also, Bolt of change and other tzeentch powers have no such test requirment in their descriptions. Yet another benefit of chaos.

GLORY TO THE CHANGER OF WAYS!

Perhaps. Perhaps not. But according to the letter of the rules of both psychic hoods and tzeentchien powers, it's perfectly pheasible to come to the conclusion that the hoods cannot stop the powers. As they automatically go off, with no test, just like the minor tzeentchian powers. Not automatically passing. No test period.

Sadly, yes, Psychic Hoods will effect models with the Mark of Tzeentch. While MoT models automatically pass any test, the test is still made. That is the only requirement for the Hood, so it's fair game.

Just remember (since it comes up often enough) that Flamers of Tzeentch are not effected by the Hood. Only those with a MoT.

I'm not talking about automatically passing Caluin. If a test is required that they automatically pass, yes the hood affects them. Like if my tzentchien champ is trying to cast wind of chaos for example, since it states right in it's description that it requires a test. But powers that require no test don't get blocked in my opinion. As you pointed out, that is the only requirement for the hood to work. Check out pg 61. All those minor powers state that no test is required. Nor are there any such requirments under the major powers of tzeentch. As there are under most other major powers.

Auto pass doesn't mean that the test isn't taken. It simply means that the test, no matter the result passes. Much like fearless and stubborn. Its just that most players, who realize that an auto pass is a waste of time to roll, generally don't roll autopass checks. That doesn't mean that technically you should be rolling those psychic tests, or morale checks.

So, simply yes a psychic hood applies to any Tzeentch powers that have a psychic test regardless of autopass abilities.

If the tzeentch power has no test associated with it then TS for the librarian's hood.

Like Warpfield or scream

number has it right gents. all psychic powers in third edition (chaos codex) were split into major and minor powers.

Caluin is right that Major powers Do require a psychic test.

Number is right that Minor powers DO NOT.

Thus eldar warlock powers besides augment.

And tyranids have only one full time power that requires the test, catalyst (when not used on the HT with bonesword himself). Warp blast is dependant on which power setting you wish to use.

Yes, it's kinda silly, but hopefully GW will be fixing this when chaos get's reissued.

Until then, as stated time and again, tzeentch powers (major powers only, or minors that require a psychic test) can be stopped using the psychic hood. Under the mark of tzeentch (or somewhere there abouts) it clearly says that the test happens, it just auto passes with no perils of the warp.

Aw, come on Tarzen no giving me props for the scream and warp field on Nids, you know how hard it is for me to understand those blasted Nids.

#15 ·
Yeah, you get props for them...would give you a cookie but can only do that every so often...(rep that is, and already done today).

ok, just one more technicality. thrall wizards can be used to "cast automatically". not in the spirit of the game, i know, but this could hold merit to the desperate, couldn't it? Although it is channeled by the psyker, the power comes from the sacrifice, not from the psykers own conentration, so the psyker is not technically making a test that he automatically passes, he is simply directing power that is "automatic" in the sacrifice of the thrall wizard.

just playing devils advocate for the sake of clearity by the way. I would never argue this for real.

Actually they don't. They simply allow you to cast a second power. All other rules still apply. The fact that only models with a mark of Tzeentch may have them (since they are in the Tzeentch Armory) simply means that they pass the psychic test automatically.

I felt nit-picky today. ;)
