Hi i don't know whether this is the right place to start a thread like this (please don't kill me i'm only new) but i was thinking today what would make a new race for 40 k (and warhammer in that case but i'll repeat this thread in the warhammer portion of the forum).

For this i suppose we could have a new space marine chapter or eldar craft world etc but i was thinking along the lines of a completely new race that has never been done before.

It could be done, but it would be nothing new. It can't be assaulty because that what chaos, orks and 'nids do. It can't be shooty ,thats what IG,necrons and tau do. It can't specialise as that what the eldars do. Being a generalist is out of the question as thats the marines job.

We already have all the bases covered so it would be a bit pointless.

No, I would not like to see a new race. Not now anyway. Tau are still new in my opinion. A new race would get in the way of much needed updates and codexes for races such as eldar, dark eldar, and orks. These need to be re-done before GW even thinks of creating a new race.

Monkeys! with umm... sticks. yeah. but magic sticks. so they hit someone and it goes pow! blammo! w00t!

Nah, a new race wouldn't a be a good idea right now due to the reasons given above. Though maybe in a few years time. Some sorta energy beings maybe? it'd need to different. and thats quite difficult now.

Here is an idea. I want to see Ordo Xenos!
Me too actually.. and it's been confirmed, but GW suddenly decided to update to 4th edition halfway through releasing the inquisition codicies, so they've been put on the back shelf for a bit.

They're mentioned in so many books though, it'll be silly if GW never does them.

i'd like to see a ninja kind of race where they have new special rules to be extra sneaky. You know lots of expensive ninja jumping all over the place. Harlequins almost fit this criteria if they weren't coloured like clowns.

Harlequins aren't ninjas anyway. Sneaky isn't their thing. They are performers. And they are only colored like clowns if you wanted them to be. >.>

Personally, if I ever wanted to see a new race, I would want the Jokaero. X3

the Sneaky hidy crap is already taken up by catachans, isn't it?

A new race wouldn't be a good idea, and I'm sure there have been countless threads already suggesting this (there was one when some people tried to create their own "LO" army, but it fizzled out after a few day..)

What you guys are saying is quite true. Gamesworkshop could lookinto their past and bring back the squats (space dwarfs, does anyone remember them?) Maybe the topic should be changed slightly what new space marine chapters could be thought up ditto with the eldar craft worlds. One question i have been pondering is what new units could be added to space marine armies. Is there anything? i mean individual chapters can have differing units wolfen for space wolfes the death company for blood angels but could any units be added to a regualr sp[ace marine army?

The new race I would like to see is "The Soviets" n.n

Anybody remember that codex I wrote or that fanfic I did a while back?

What id really like to see is a return of the Hrud as a Race though this will probably never happen(for those of you who dont know Hrud are rat-like creatures who are about as old, if not older, than the Eldar and their homeworld was destroyed when a group of Chaos woshippers who worshipped the Great Horned Rat who is a minor chaos god and this group was called, of course, the Skaven and so Hrud live underground on thousands of worlds)

I still really want to know where this Hrud/Skaven thing comes from.. As far as I'm aware, GW have released almost nothing about the Hrud. If it's from the internet, be careful about trusting every word.

Anyway, GW are unlikely to ever do Hrud, the reason being that they have no real place or theme. Warhammer has the skaven, true, but then, warhammer is based loosely on the medieval european world, in which rats, plague and shadowy dealings were a big part of the 'environment.' In 40k, all these images are meaningless.. they're just another race crudely tacked in and with any plot holes filled up by a bunch of fantasy tie ins.

GW will probably never do the Demiurg (the Squat equivallents in the new fluff) because, firstly, they're not very powerful. They make the Tau look numerous and dangerous. Secondly, they're a space based mining race.. They basically fly around harvesting asteroids and space gasses (there is evidence to suggest they're strongly based on the Bentusi from the Homeworld series) and thus they seldom land on planets at all. Thirdly, they're fairly peaceful, and tend to quietly slip away when confronted rather than fighting.. The only race they consistantly fight against is the orks.

Also.. what would these armies play like? The basic hrud weapon, we're lead to believe, is a plasma gun.. which means GW are not going to make them because they want people to buy terminators. The Demiurg would just be marines without the CC abilities and with Ion Cannons (a technology they sold to the Tau.)

I'd like to see the Demiurg as a race myself, actually, because they have a cool theme (what little we know about it) but the fact is that they'd be a massive break with tradition, because their codex would have to say 'Okay, these guys aren't going to conquer the galaxy, they're not the biggest threat to the Imperium ever, they're just a bunch of dudes who like mining and trading technology.' Rather than the more normal 'Oh my god this race is so cooool.. all their opponents wet their pants and cry because they're so incredibly powerful. They could crush the Imperium with one finger.. and they can fly and have forcefields!'

It's been said but I miss the Squats.

I can't see why they had to go. I muy opinion they fit perfectly well with the current 40K universe. And the fluff was great. The living ancestors and everthing... Great!

I see this alot. Why not just make a squat army yourself? Make it a theme army using LaTD rules. It's perfect for em'. GW even suggested it when they made an Adeptus Mechanicus army in a recent WD. If you really have the drive. Make squats. I garantee you'll win some awards if you do all those conversions and there painted well. Even if not, you'll get tons of pats on the back. The LaTD list is the most flexible around, and has tons of units that can "count as" in the squat army.

ok for one Hrud was and ,no one will tell me other wise, are an Original GW creation and do actually are allowed to appear in Inquisitor and Necromunda and are offen reffered to in books. (i take a quote from one of the commisar Cain books in which it mentions the Inquisitor, sorry cant remember name, mentions that at the time that Cain is reffereing to she was presently waist deep in a Hrud colony trying to fight the little devils off) plus they dont use plasma in the sense i think you are meaning im sorry but this would make no sense, for one plasma is not a massively uncommon technology and would probably be underneath a race as old and knowledgable as the Hrud, Hrud use weapons with that utilise plasma but their technology is mainly based on warp stones and warp energy (and no warp stones are not wraith stones they are similar yes but not the same, something about how its made and how they use it) so while eldar use warp stone as a thing to make things with it warp stones are used in Hrud weaponry. And for the whole "where do they fit in" thing is they are the only sub-terrainian (sorry about spelling if its wrong) race and they have a unique play style and they have a plethora of fluff opportunities.

Read the Inquisitor rulebook, which identifies the basic hrud weapon as a 'fusil,' a type of advanced plasma weapon. It's a damn nasty piece of kit in inquisitor too.

I like pirates or mercenaries. For that you need to set up a set of basic troopers. Then you'd need Somewhat restricted, okay very restricted. Same with A character and weapon design set. With positive and negative modifyers. It would havve to borrow heavily from the IG codex and get a little help fro mthe orc codex.
