Old Eldar becoming New - SJPhilly's Eldar project

I've been playing Eldar since 3rd edition. I took a break through 4th and came back a bit in to 5th. Once 6th came out and Codex creep set in I've put them on the shelf for the past few months, waiting for the new Codex. Well the time has come, and I'm excited. I've made a few new purchases and am ready to add them to the army.

A lot of my army was painted when I first started playing. When I came back in 5th I added some new units and my painting had gotten better. Working through my Space Wolves I got a lot of painting practice on them. This project is to get done the new units and start updating my existing ones.

My first unit will be a Crimson Hunter. While the aspect is supposed to be red, I just went with my regular paint scheme. I wanted to try something new on this vehicle, so I got some painter's tape to try and put some stripes on it. My Craftworld's scheme is Dark Angels Green and Ultramarine blue, so I wanted to do green with blue stripes. I painted the blue areas I wanted the stripes on and and taped them over before airbrushing.

After this I airbrushed over it in green. After letting it dry I removed the tape, but it didn't go quite as well as I hopes. It seemed the paint had seeped in to some of the cracks under the tape. Also some of the tape glue stayed on. I just tried painting over it as I didn't want to scrape off any of the paint that was already there. Hoping it works out. So I touched it up and here's the end result. The lines look cleaner in person. I'll do a but more touching up to make the lines cleaner as I do some more work on it. But I liked how it came out for a first try.

Here's one of my Wave Serpents I painted a while ago for a vehicle comparison.

So I won't have any kind of schedule for this, I already failed at that for my Space Wolves TOXG thread. I do need to get a good amount painted for an 1850 tournament in August so I'll be updating this as I go along for that. This'll keep me motivated, and I'm already feeling motivated coming back to this army. Should be fun.

A good start. I'll be following how this goes along :)

Not exactly an update but using this as an excuse to do a full army post to show my current overall status

Most of what is painted I did around 3rd Edition. I started playing again around Feb 2011, and around that time I painted the Avatar, the Avengers, the Banshees, and a Wave Serpent, along with some touch ups around the army.

Here's probably my best painted model in my Eldar army, the Avatar. I'll probably do some better shots of this guy later.

Bikes, old metal Wraithguard and Rangers

My poor retired Banshees

And my armored core

So my painting job now is to do some more detailing on the Crimson Hunter I have in progress, and get all my vehicles based. Then I want to get all my Avengers up to the same standard. I'm also in the middle of building a Fire Prism with another in the box, so those will be added soon. I also have some flock and rocks to add to the bases of what's already there. So, plenty to do.

Done some detail work on the Crimson Hunter. I applied green and blue wash/shade to the plate cracks to give it some depth and definition. It looks a lot better this way. Also painted up the pilot. I kept him red to represent the aspect.

So what I have left on here is detailing the guns and other bits like the panel above the cockpit, and the engines. I might try some highlight lines later. Before going too nuts on the details I want to get some paint/designs on the 2nd one.

What I'm also working on is assembling the first Fire Prism. I have the main cannon basecoated with blue and assembled, and the rest primed. What I want to go with is mainly blue with green highlights, to go the opposite of my Wave Serpents so they stand out as different.

Update on what I've been up to. Got some basing materials and started basing some models I already had. Here's a Dire Avengers squad. The painting is still in progress but I got them based.

Here's the base for my new Farseer. I think all that's left is drybrushing over some more Bleached Bone and then Skull White, and adding a little flock.

And the Fire Prism I was building before. Painted up the prism cannon before I glued it together because of the clear plastic pieces.

Been a while since an update. Haven't been doing as much painting so I haven't had pictures to post. I've built 7 jetbikes and a 2nd Fire Prism since my last post. Also got the 2nd squad of Dire Avengers based. However a few weeks ago I took the airbrush to some vehicles.

Got the Fire Prisms to a good spot. Airbrushed, added some touch-ups, and added the blue and green wash.

One of the things I did that I like is magnetized one of them to switch to a Night Spinner. I haven't used it yet but I like having the option.

I also now have paint on all my Wave Serpents.

I also got paint on my 3 Walkers. They're just blue right now, figured it wasn't worth posting a picture.

For my next step, this weekend I plan on finishing this bad boy, with magnetized weapons.

Looking good, I like the striping on the crimson hunter and basically how you've done all the vehicles.
I see you're models are rocking the 'classic' Goblin Green base trim, keeping it that way or just have them that way because they were painted ages ago? (3rd edition you said?!(0_0))
A pretty awesome warhost you've got so far, I'm eager to see the project develop , and can't wait to see that Wraithlord all painted up in all it's glory. :)
