The starter set of good value yes, they make it thet way to get people into the hobby.
The models are snap together in the way that glue is not necessary, everything in the box can be put together, and stays together well, without glue.

 

The modles are all one soild piece of plastic (except the troll and and cannon and a few other things) but the quality of the scuplts is much better than the BFM boxed set. Once you get them painted you wont be able to tell the difference bettwen the BFSP minis and the individual regiment boxes.

 

The Skull Pass set is very good value, especially if you split the cost with a friend and take one army each.

Of course it's even better value if you want to play Chaos Dwarves, as you can use every model in the box, apart from the Troll.

 

The models are supposedly snap-together, but in reality several will require glue. The spider riders, the grudge ponty, the ork idol to name a few.

That said, it is true that the sculpts are very good, even considering how simplistic the models are. They look great even after my 10-year old son painted them. It's probably the single best value GW offers. If anybody you game with has an interest in orcs-n-goglins or dwarfs, it's a steal. We calculated that the gobln army itself is worth more than 700 pts without any character upgrades.

 

Yes it represents fantastic value for money. Plus you also get the full set of WHFB rules with the rulebook! :w00t:

I agree it's a fantastic set. It's fantastic value even if it just had, say the Goblins (because there are rather a lot of them after all), but you don't just get goblins! There's dwarfs and a rulebook too! Its the best value set GW have produced in a long time.

The one thing that I don't like about it is the introductory booklet that is suposed to teach new players the game because it ignores key aspects of the rules such as the rank bonus in combat resolution. Other than that little gripe with one little thing that you get in the box, I think everything else about it is brilliant. Just learn from the rulebook and not the booklet :yes:

 

Its a brilliant set, nice and easy to assemble and paint with two small armies and all the rules in a nice compact format. One of the best value boxes GW has ever done.

 

Like everyone else has said, BfSP is a great deal.
I just bought the box myself, and I'm pretty amazed. Over 100 minis, VERY easy to put together, and a mini-rulebook (it has all the rules, but it has all the fluff taken out).
It costs the same as a rulebook, too, so as long as you don't mind not having fluff in the rulebook, you're basically getting 100+ models free.

Edit: And you're saving lots of money on models, too.

 

Thanks to everyone that has replied to this thread. You've been very helpful. I've let my mate know, the one who was going to play either Orcs & Gobbos, or Dwarves, so now he'll already have the start of his 2nd army

 

I found one of the best things was that the goblins are real simple. I find that building 60 gobbos from the Goblin boxed sets is much too daunting, as well as being about twice the price of BfSP.

If you just wanted it for more goblin regiments it would be worth. Guaranteed.
