Does anybody know if GW will release a new guard codex and when?? I have been hearing rumors....

If so, does anybody know what changes will be in it???

Just trying to clear this up once and for all.

most things are saying that it will be out late 2009 or early 2010

there are rumors that they will remove docterines

there are rumors that you will get to give stormtroopers the valkyrie transport as a vehicle upgrade(it will become a skimmer, because flyers are overpowered)

rumors of a new leman russ(not bring back an old one, supposedly a new russ entirely)

rumors of letting infantry squads take transports(no armored fist troop choice anymore)

leman russes in a squadron of 1 to 3, but only a 0-1 choice, so you can have 3 russes and still have 2 hv support slots open

and there have been rumors of special rules that let you fire over your own units

were supposed to get plastic karskins and a plastic valkyrie

NOTE: these are all rumors, and none are confirmed(except maybe that we are probably getting plastic karskins, and a plastic valkyrie) dont get angry with me if some are not true!!!

on a better note, i personally hope they fix ogryn, stormtroopers, and all the advisors(everything costs too much for its worth, and stormtroopers hellguns need to get better)

I'd put money on March/April '09. By all accounts, that's the release date.

Things that look almost certain:
Doctrines are gone
Platoon Drill that will allow you to shoot through your own men
Customizable platoon options (replacement for doctrines)
New Plastic Russ kit which can make all variants
New HQ "Commisar Lord" (seen pics of him online)
Plastic Stormies
Plastic Valkyrie

Things that are likely, but still iffy:
Plastic Greatcoats (these have been talked about for awhile)
New Russ Varient (you can see a picture in the 5th Ed book)
3 Leman Russ squadron (Unknown if it's 0-1, or a regular HS choice)

Things I personally think we'll see:
IG lineman drop to 5 pts/model
A host of special characters, some which will legionize the army (same as Orks and new SM)
Plastic Rough Riders

I think getting new storm troops, great coats, Leman Russ, Valkyrie, Commisar Lord, Special character models, and rough riders sounds like a decent codex release.

New Russ Varient (you can see a picture in the 5th Ed book)
Can you give a link for the first and a page reference for the other? I am familiar with every Russ variant in existence, so I am quite curious...

Dont believe everything you hear on Warseer, its probably one of the most unreliable sources imaginable.

"Oh, did I tell you my father's, brother's best friend works for GW and says ... will happen"

... yea right and my dad is the president, the codex will come out but not any time soon so have patience. There is still dark eldar, space wolves, necrons and space marines to be redone, thats taking into account that I am not forgetting anything.

No one on this website will be able to tell you anything accurate, its all about he said this, he heard that and ect.

Fair point. However, if you apply a little common sense, most of the rumors you can sort through. Also, repetition of a rumor can add to it. But GW is a business that makes games, not a government intelligence agency. When new broke on LO of the possibility of 5th Ed coming out last winter, I called it as very possible after taking a simple review of GW's release schedule for the last 20 years.

I'm still pulling for plastic rough riders dammit!

Actually, from six years of being involved on Warseer, most rumors that are mentioned do come to be true.

Yes, there are some things which are to be dismissed, such as a plastic thunderhawk, yet it is a reasonable reliable source of information concerning rumors.

As far as I know, the new IG codex is supposed to be coming out sometime early next year.

but what if warseer was not my source?

40k Imperial Guard Rumors Herald the Screams of Valkyries! The Samurai Gunslinger

Imperial Guard Rumor (update: tanks)

a slightly more reliable source
Imperial Guard Message Board - Solid rumors for IG codex

and of course the rumor starter itself
Imperial Guard Rumours - WarSeer

still tho, they might be just taking the rumors off warseer and copying them, but then again, who knows maybe they did find something out...........................GOTTA HOPE RIGHT???

Not to add fuel to the fires of rumors, but the manager down at my local GW shop has repeatedly stated that the new Guard Codex OR the new Space Wolves is to be either released in December '08. Whichever is released first, the second will follow (so if Wolves come out first, Guard follow second and vice versa). Don't quote me as having a reliable source, but that's just what I've been constantly been told down at my local.

Ah, yes that picture. I thought you meant there was an actual model. I noticed that the first time around, and I am really not inclined to trust it too much, that chart (cool as it is) has a lot of inaccuracies as far as the images go…

And on another note, I really hope we don’t see our doctrines and Armored Fists go. We could stand to see ratlings go (I mean really, who wants them?), and we could stand to get a new HQ choice, and a fast attack that is actually fast…

#21 ·
Just_Me why dis one of our better elites?

ratlings are better than techpriests, or ogryns

in 5th edition snipers are getting better, and other than eldar pathfinders, and the vindicare, i think ratlings(other than deathworld catachans, mad larkin) are one of the best snipers in 40k?

I don't object to their rules, just them. They are silly! They are a holdover from the time that GW was still porting WHFB stuff into WH40K, and they have no place in the current universe. We do deserve a dedicated sniper unit, or at least a better sniper, but they should be humans, not space-hobbits...

#23 ·
lol yea i agree.

i thought you were saying that they were a bad unit, yeah i agree that other than roughriders, they are the worst models in 40k

personally i just use cadian snipers, and if people argue that the height of them is different from ratlings, i just use the cadian sniper that is crouching, he is the same height(at least close to) as the ratlings.

Since we've got ratlings, via some inspiration elsewhere on this forum I've decided that I'm going to convert some Skaven to be snipers. They should look pretty ratty! I honestly hate the little space-hobbit models, anyway!

I'm just waiting for those new scout bikes that the Space Marines get to convert into my rough riders. Enough of this silly riding a horse (exception being those Cyber Horses that Krieg have) into combat, time to put men on bikes with some lances, THERE'S your modern day calvary charge. Depending how the sprue is set up, all i might really need to do is put on the upper half of a guardsman.

As for the space hobbits... Yea the models could be tossed, and I'd prefer that the ratlings were just changed to snipers. The unit is good, but I can't stand those models.

Warseer is one of the most reliable source of GW rumors on the net, along with Bell of Lost Souls, as long as you know how to pick out the obvious people who are either lying or very gullible. Obviously Space Marines are coming out before IG, as they're coming out in September/October. Then Warriors of Chaos for Fantasy, then probably Space Wolves, then Lizardmen or Beastmen, then Imperial Guard. Necrons will be late 2009 and reportedly Dark Eldar have been pushed back once again to 2010. Imperial Guard sell. Dark Eldar do not. It's not hard to imagine that GW would update one and not the other, even though one needs it much more.

For whoever mentioned Daemonhunters, I honestly doubt Inquisition will ever see an update. By looking at the fifth edition rule book, you can see they're being phased out.

I hope you're wrong about this, the Inquisition is awesomely fluffy, and the allies rules make them available to everyone. Within the imperium that is.

I've heard that somewhere down the line, they might get merged into one codex, including witch hunters, daemon hunters, and xeno hunters. But I guess if they ever do get an update, it'll be about the same time the Necrons and Dark Eldar get theirs...

As for Imperial Guard rumors... well, more of a hope really: is there any chance that the Heavy Stubber could make a comeback? I think it's the sweetest weapon the IG can get, and yet it's only officially allowed on pintle mounts! ...and every Imperial Armor unit ever created... Come on GW, just paste the phrase "Heavy Stubber Team at +8 points" in every unit entry...

I hope not too, Daemonhunters are one of my main armies. And you'll probably still be able to use them, I just don't see an update in the cards. Neither Inquisition codex is terribly "broken" anyway; Grey Knights are a bit overpriced, and No Retreat dealt a blow to fearless units, which make up most of Inquisition armies, but there are many armies that need an update more. Also, part of the fun of playing Inquisition is its relative exclusivity!
