Allocating wounds quick question

Hi there,

I'm pretty sure this is covered into many other treads, and I'm sorry for it, but since my question is quite specific, I didn't wanted to browse half night long. SO here it is :

If I have a Deathwing Squad with 1x CML and THnSS, 3 x THnSS, 1x CF and Strombolter and I suffer 2 wounds from let's say bolter fire, do I have to allocate the wounds to 2 models of diffrent ''gear'', or can I allocate both wounds to THnSS models ? (in short, are models equiped with the same wargear counting as a single model for wound allocation, or do they count individually ?)

Thank you.

I just read the rule section in the BRB, and maybe it's because I have a cold and an headache, but it sure didn't help the headache get better...

It's fairly simple if:
  • all the models only have 1 wound,
  • all have the same save,
  • and the unit has taken less wounds than there are models in the unit.

In your example, just make two saving rolls, if you fail both, simply remove two models of your choice.

Wound allocation is only get complex when the models in the unit have 2 or more wounds each and some of them have differing equipment. I'm assuming these Deathwing guys only have 1 wound each, if not, I'll let someone else try and explain it!

WRONG! The OP has a complex unit.

Wounds are allocated on a model-by-model basis so pick two models to allocate wounds to then roll the saves in groups of identically equipped models. Allocation happens first then you roll saves.

In the above case you can allocate a wound to two of the schmucks and (the TH/SS ones) and then roll two saves at once (as they are same wound group). Any failed saves are removed from that wound group.

Wrong again. Number of wounds has no bearing on whether a unit is complex or not.

Pg. 25 of the corebook, under Complex Units.

In essence, you allocate one wound to each model in the group until you run out of wounds (or have to allocate more wounds). There is no order by which you have to allocate them; you could allocate both to identical models (two THnSS) or to different models (one THnSS, one CF/Stormbolter). In fact, if you assign them to identical models, and you have more than the wounds needed, you don't even have to say which two of your three THnSS models is specifically being hit.

Once wound allocation is done, then you roll to save in like-groups.
  • If you had chosen to assign both wounds to THnSS, then you would roll two saves and see if any of your three models dropped. If both wounds were unsaved, then you choose any two out of the three to remove as casualties.
  • If you had instead chosen to allocate the two wounds to one THnSS and one CF/Stormbolter, then you would roll one die for each "group". If both wounds were unsaved, you would automatically lose the CF/Stormbolter but would get to choose any one out of the three THnSS to remove.
