Dark Angels Scouts are Elite?

Very simple, guys. On page 83 of the Dark Angels codex SCOUT SQUAD is listed on an ELITE page, and the only units listed under TROOPS is TACTICAL SQUAD. I find it extremely hard to believe that Scouts are Elites, in any Space Marine army. I want to think they're Troops, I've always known them to be troops, and the inexperienced squads don't belong in the same section as the masterful Terminator squads and age-old dreadnoughts, but... the proof is on the page. Can someone please direct me to a solution?

And why not think of the other way my friend? In Wolves Scouts are Elite because they are old and have passed from all the stages but the Wolf Guard... (If I remember the things right!)

But the fact doesn't changes... Scouts are Elites. And I think they will be for all Marines with the new Codex...

Indeed they are. I believe this more reflects the limited quantity of recruits in just that stage of training than any true rank, though this discourages me from actually taking any - something I want to, because of their role in the fluff. However, having a Dread and Deathwing Assault at the same time outweighs it. Maybe, for less competitive games, though.

I can see why they're elite in the space wolf army, they had outflank before it existed! and it was better too lol

That would be a shame imo if scouts moved to the elite section in the new codex, I liked them where they were.

Which is precisely what I was thinking of doing, with the combat squads rule I could have made a 2000 point list with 6 5-man scout teams with bolt pistols and chainswords lead by a powerfist veteran sergeant, and 6 5-man scout teams with sniper rifles and maybe the odd Missle Launcher. It simply baffles me that Dark Angels have the options to take the rarest of fighters, Terminators, and the deadliest of fast assault units, Ravenwing Bikers, as troops, and yet Scouts, the most "expendable" infantry available, are Elite in comparison.

This is in fact the very reason dark angel scouts are considered elites: The DA do have very good scout squads.

So good, in fact, that their stats are far superior to those that the new vanilla scouts will have (scouts in the new codex will still be troops choices, however they will apparently have both baslistic and weapon skills of 3. Yes, 3, not 4. They will, however, be able to take a special landspeeder scout transport, which might help ofset this somewhat.)

Also, don't forget - they come with infiltrate, a skill which became even more powerful in 5th edition, what with the way armies are now deployed AND with regards to the outflank ability.

Then there's the aspect that in most marine armies, scout squads are seconded to much larger tactical forces. A taskforce that consists of over 200 marines might only have 10 scouts attached. That doesn't sound like a group that you can rely on to hold objectives over the long term!

Having DA and BA scouts as elite choices make a whole lotta sense to me!

i believe part of the reason the scouts were moved to elites for BA and DA was to keep people from abusing the min. amount of core to buff up the rest of thier army while 4th edition was still out and everthing could still score. beyond the few people who play a full scout army, this isnt really a bad thing for anyone considering the things you can get in both armies and still ave multiple scout squads.
