Hey all.

Getting back into the game after a few years of neglect.

Just wondering what armies and builds in particular are dominating the game at the present time.

If i went to a large tournament, what armies would i expect to see on the podium?

Sm and Chaos Daemons are currently king, as far as i heard. IG are also doing good, but that might just be the "new army factor" (people not knowing how to counter it).

I'm a demons player and got to say, though the main opinion is "Demons are too random to be competitive", I' won quite alot in the one tournament I played. They're a fun army to play too - funnest I've played. The flugg isn't all that bad either. :p

Out of the armies I've faced, SM was by far the easiest to kill. Haven't faced new IG yet, but the new codex looks awesome. Orks I had some trouble with - a giant swarm of orks HURTS on all armies to be honest. Crons are pretty good too - WBB rolls are awesome, but you tend to see lots of power weapons around.

Haven't ever faced Dark Eldar with any of my armies, so can't comment on that - nobody even knows how they are on paper here.

Eldar I found some pretty hard opponents - their normal weapons are assault 2, so it's basically a rapidfiring bolter but with a bigger range etc. D-Cannons, Vibro Cannons and similiar weapons hurt - lots of eldar weaponry actually do a lot against vehicles - many glance on a 3 or 4, penetrate on a 5 or 6, which on a landraider is better than a krak missile can do (by far)

Shuriken cats may be assault 2, but they are still only range 12", if your bolter unit was within 12" they'd be able to fire twice as well, Eldar just get the option to move and double fire, which is very Eldar.
