Bretons,

This thread is dedicated to listing really effective or fun builds for Lords, Paladins, Damsels, and Prophetesses

It is meant as a reference tool for people who are new to Bretonnians and experts a like to learn from.

Please post your posts in the following format:

Rank:
Classification:
Equipment:
Vows and Virtues:
Total Cost:
Tactical Advise:
Extra Notes:

Remember. Do NOT post direct points costs.
Pleas help keep the thread easy to read and avoid comments on the thread (Message people if you really feel you need to). Also, please try to keep to the above format - for ease of reference (unless you can develop something smoother, which would be fine).

Here's an example:

Rank:
Paladin
Classification: Resolution Battle Standard Bearer
Equipment: Battle Standard, Bretonnian Warhorse, War Banner
Vows and Virtues: Virtue of Duty
Total Cost: 129
Tactical Advise: Put him in with a block of KOTR and watch as you win drawn-out combats!
Extra Notes: I'm pretty sure I've seen this guy listed as somewhat a staple around here but I know when I first started out playing Brets he saved my bacon on more than one occasion!

#2 ·
Rank: Paladin Battle Standard Bearer
Classification: Combat Resolution BSB
Equipment: Banner of the Lady, Barded Warhorse, Hand Weapon
Vows and Virtues: Virtue of Duty, Knights Vow
Total Cost: 204
Tactical Advise: Use only in larger games (2K+). Charge into blocks of RNF and watch them flee!
Extra Notes:

Rank: Paladin Battle Standard Bearer
Classification: Survival BSB
Equipment: Sword of Might, Gromril Great Helm, Barded Warhorse
Vows and Virtues: Knights Vow
Total Cost: 124
Tactical Advise: Used for the re-rolling of break tests. Keep him centralised and surviving.
Extra Notes:

Rank: Bretonnian Lord
Classification: Duelling Lord
Equipment: Hippogryph, Sword of the Lady's Champion, Armour of Agilulf, Gauntlet of the Duel
Vows and Virtues: Virtue of Confidence, Grail Vow
Total Cost: 438
Tactical Advise: Throw him at units with heros an champions. Make a challenge at which they can't refuse. Then hit on 3+ and wound on 3+ (both re-rollable) and a Hippogryph for extra overkill wounds!
Extra Notes: Can be mounted on a horse and in a unit for extra AS and protection but I think the hippogryph is more fun (ie Terror and killing more!).

Vows: Questing Vow, Virtue of the Ideal, Virtue of Empathy, Virtue of knightly Temper, Gauntlet of the Duel.
Cost: 211
Tactical:Larger Battles only Second Lord.

Sorry man you can only have one virtue on your lords.

#6 ·
Rank: Bretonnian Lord
Classification: Duelist of sorts
Equipment: Birth Sword of Carcassone,Enchanted Shield, Lance
Vows and Virtues: Virtue of Confidence, Knights Vow
Total Cost: 207
Tactical Advise: Put him in a block of something and Watch his kills stack... even outside of a duel
Extra Notes: another fun variant if you are feeling saucy would be to loose the shield give him the Great Helm and a CCW for an additional attack
Rank: Damsel
Classification: the ever popular Dispell Scroll Damsel
Equipment: Dispell Scroll x2
Lore: I personally use life almost exclusively, but that's me
Total Cost: 105
Tactical Advise: put in her in a block of knights and frustrate your opponents
Extra Notes: Also works well in group (having more than one on the table may not be bad)

#7 · (Edited)
rank: Paladin bsb
classification:fighter/combat res man
equipment:,mounted heavy armour bb warhorse, sword of might
Vows:duty
cost: 99 :)
tactical advice:In small games put him in a unit of 5 kotr with war banner. In larger games, 8 kotr with war banner.

rank: brettonian lord
classification:fast cav / flyer hunter
equipment: sireens locket, warhorse, lance, heavy armour
vows : joust
cost: around 235
Tactical advice: put him on his own and protect the flank of one of your knight units. When possible get behind your opponent and force him to re form or face rear charges. Its a steal at 235

#8 · (Edited)
Rank: Paladin
Classification: footknight -- versatile fighter and tough to kill
Equipment: great weapon, Enchanted Shield, Insignia of the Quest
Vows and Virtues: Questing Vow, Virtue of Empathy
Total Cost: 122
Tactical Advise: Place in a large block of Men-at-Arms to provide some damage potential. His leadership bubble can be quite useful for keeping peasant units in line. Use his hand weapon and shield for a 2+ save or utilize the great weapon for str 6 attacks. The insignia keeps him well-protected whichever option you choose.
Extra Notes: Use in conjunction with the spell 'Bears Anger' for a real powerhouse.

Rank: Lord
Classification: Linebreaker
Equipment: Shield, Heartwood Lance, Dragon Claw
Vows and Virtues: Knights Vow, Virtue of the Ideal
Total Cost: 229
Tactical Advise: Get him into combat. With 5 WS 8, Str 6 attacks on the charge can bring down block troops or monsters. The reroll to wound add reliability as well as making him decent in round two (still 5 Str 4 attacks). His 2+/5++ saves are okay defense and I've found that the immunity to flaming attacks can be great against daemons.
Extra Notes: Be careful not to shoot yourself in the foot with his virtue's Ld drawback.

#9 ·
Rank: Bretonnian Lord
Classification: General Slayer
Equipment: Tress of Isoulde, Cuirass of Fortune, Mantle of Damsel Elena, Lance, and Shield
Vows and Virtues: Grail Vow, Virtue of Knightly Temper
Total Cost: 268
Tactical Advise: I try to use this character to slay the enemy general. Stick him in a unit of knights of the realm or grail knights, and once you are able to charge, make sure this character is in base to base contact with said leader and unleash his staggering number of high strength attacks, with re-rolls.
Extra Notes: He works well in challenges with his immunity to killing blow.

Rank: Paladin
Classification: Veteran Lancer
Equipment: Lance of Artois, Shield
Vows and Virtues: Knight's Vow, Virtue of the Joust
Total Cost: 126
Tactical Advise: Try to get into a challenge on the charge, or simply allocate your attacks at characters. I find this build to be useful against the steggadon ancient, allocate attacks at the skink priest and with a little luck he simply vanishes. The re-rolls to hit.
Extra Notes: In smaller games I switch between this paladin and my Hero Seeker as Generals

Rank: Paladin
Classification: Hero Seeker
Equipment: Morning Star of Fracasse, Armor of Agilulf
Vows and Virtues: Knight's Vow
Total Cost: 126
Tactical Advise: This fellow excels against enemy characters, where his high weapon skill and likely ability to destroy their magic weapon will come into play.
Extra Notes: The morning star of Fracasse is just as useful as a lance when you charge, and gives the same bonus the first round of any close combat. Useful leader for Errantry Knights, or if you take the questing vow, questing knights

Rank: Damsel
Classification: Dispel Support
Equipment: 1 Dispel Scroll, Chalice of Malfeur, Warhorse, Lvl 1 Wizard
Vows and Virtues: None
Total Cost: 125
Tactical Advise: I run this damsel in a unit of knights, or sometimes even Men at Arms. Dispel Scrolls are only useful once during the game, and barring unlucky rolls, the chalice is useful the whole game
Extra Notes:

#10 ·
Rank: Paladin
Classification: Duelist
Equipment: Morning star of Fracasse, shield, horse
Vows and virtues confidence
Total Cost: I think 147 , don't have my book on me
Tactical advise: Run up to the enemy general and say no magic weapon for you!
Extra notes: s6 in the first round of combat and reroll hits and wounds in the challenge plus an excelent chance of taking out the enemy's magic weapon.

#11 ·
Rank: Lord
Classification: troop eater
Equipment: sirienne's locket, lance, shield, hippogriph
Vows and virtues: virtue of knightly temper, Grail vow
Total Cost: 441pts
Tactical advise: hunt war machines (preferably not canons) disrupt battle lines with terror flank or rear core troops eg. high elf spearmen, state troops, maruaders, goblins ect... do not send him into the front of a unit without a lance supporting him. dont send him into hard hitting units (not even rear or flank on this one) without support. monsterous creatures are fair prey...
Exstra notes: This guy has a devistateing charge I once took out 8 temple guard with him and his hippogriph then the knights struck... but he willonly rearly do the same to a unit of gobboes so dont exspect to much of him. he can break units and hunt faster ones not rearly afraid of dieing ither...

#12 ·
Rank: Lord
Classification: Survivable and Character Killer
Equipment: Sword of Might, Lance, Shield, Gilded Cuirass, Dragons Claw, Warhorse
Vows and virtues: Grail Vow
Total Cost: 268
Tactical advise: Very survivable character against anything except KB. Great for killing Blood Thirsters with flaming attacks, make sure to Issue a challenge so you don't have to worry about your knights dying.
Extra notes: 2+As, 4+Regen, 5+Ward. Can also be fielded on a Pegasus or Hippogryph for lone hunting but your mount becomes a target for combat res.

Rank: Damsel
Classification: Blessing of the Lady
Equipment: Prayer Icon of Quenelles, Dispel Scroll
Vows and virtues: Lvl 1 Wizard
Total Cost: 120
Tactical advise: Put her in a large unit of Skirmishing Archers or even Men at Arms to give them the Blessing via the Prayer Icon and MR
Extra notes: As she will be in the front of the unit you can even up her Wizard Level and give her a Power stone instead of the Dispel Scroll.

#13 ·
Rank: Brettonian Lord
Classification: Killy-Guy
Equipment: Warhorse, Silver Lance, Grail Shield, Grail Vow
Aditional Notes: This is hypothetical, but. 2+/4+ is solid, and with 4 attaks that auto-hit at S6 is pretty mean. I'd stick him with Grail Knights and watch him go through pretty much anything!

#14 ·
Rank: Paladin
Classification: Troop Rallier
Equipment: Heavy Armor, Hand Weapon, Battle Standard
Vows and Virtues: Virtue of Empathy, Knight's Vow
Total Cost: 70 points
Tactical Advise: Judging from the set-up, looks to be solid to help keep pesants from fleeing too badly.
Extra Notes: This is the first Paladin I've tried building so far, to help with the beginning Bretonnian army I'm working on.

#15 ·
Rank: Lord
Classification: Survivable terror and flame bomb
Equipment: Hippogryph, Wyrmlance, shield, Gilded cuirass, Dragons claw
Vows and virtues: Grail Vow
Total Cost: 441
Tactical advise: Fly this guy up near missile troops or the rear of enemy units and blast them with fire, cause terror tests, march block and have enough survivability to weather their shooting/magic and charge next turn.
Extra notes: 4+Armour, 5+Ward, 4+Regen and immune to fire. Very effective against flammable and regen enemies (wood elves, vampires, daemons, etc) and enemies that have flaming attacks (daemons, dwarf war machines, dragons, hydras, etc).
Works well in a peasant heavy list as he provides speed and survivable Ld9 anywhere you need it. And he's really fun to play.

#16 · (Edited)
Rank: Bretonnian Lord
Classification: Unit Cracker
Equipment: Silver Lance of the Blessed, Cuirass of Fortune, Shield
Mount: Hippogryph
Vows and virtues: Virtue of Discipline, Knight's Vow
Total Cost: 413
Tactical advice: This character build is specifically designed to reliably defeat units of Rank n File on his own when charging from the flank or rear. Charge into a flank, and on most enemy units, you'll start combat with a resolution of 0-0 (you will have a flank charge, the enemy will typically have a standard). The Silver Lance makes all four of your attacks hit, and the Cuirass means that you can bank on all those hits wounding on T4 or less enemies (thanks to the re-roll of 1s to wound). The attacks from the Hippogryph are just gravy on the cake. In most cases, you should be winning combat by at least four, which is enough to reliably take down even the highest leadership troops.
Extra notes: This character is not very resilient. With only a 4+ armor save and the Blessing, he can't take too much from extra fighty things like Chaos Lords or decked out Vampires. Also, beware stubborn, unbreakable, ASF troops. This guy emulates the ethos of Bretonnia - Strike hard on the charge, win, and overrun.

#17 ·
Rank: Paladin
Classification: Killy BSB
Eqiupment: Sword of Might, Barded Bretonnian Warhorse
Vows and Virtues: Virtue of Duty
Total Cost:134
Tactical Advice: Stick in a unit of knights, He adds +2 CR from being a BSB and his Virtue, while still having some combat ability to help his unit out even more.

I use a combo of Lords and Heroes

Rank: Bretonnian Lord
Classification: Questing Monster Hunter
Equipment: Hippogryph, Insignia of the Quest, Gromril Great Helm, Shield
Vows and Virtues: Questing Vow, Virtue of Heroism
Total Cost: 420
Tactical Advise: Hunt Large Targets, and/or Flank/Scare enemies
Extra Notes: Yes even Steam Tanks!!

Rank: Grail Paladin BSB
Classification: Combat Res BSB
Equipment: Sword of Might, Warhourse
Vows and Virtues: Grail Vow, Virtue of Duty
Total Cost: 145
Tactical Advise: Combine with Grail Paladin, Damsel and 6 Grail Knights
Extra Notes:

Rank: Grail Paladin
Classification: Combat Res Paladin
Equipment: Shield, Birth-sword of Carcassonne or Sword of Heroes, Lance
Vows and Virtues: Grail Vow, Virtue of Discipline
Total Cost: 151
Tactical Advise: Combine with Grail BSB, Damsel and 6 Grail Knights
Extra Notes:

Rank: Protection Damsel
Classification: Scroll Caddy
Equipment: 2 DS, Warhorse
Vows and Virtues: none
Total Cost: 130
Tactical Advise: Combine with Grail BSB, Grail Paladin, and 6 grail Knights
Extra Notes: Natural MR1 which aplies to the unit she's with too. Also, I only take Mistress of the Marsh. She's not there to cast spells, but if I can get it off it can slow down an enemy from charging or fleeing.

Rank: Questing Paladin
Classification: Leader of the Realm
Equipment: Sword of the Quest, Shield, Warhorse
Vows and Virtues: Questing Vow
Total Cost: 134
Tactical Advise: Hunt for missle weapons, flanks, and Chariot types
Extra Notes: I put him with 5 Knights of the Realm with full command and Banner of Chalon.

#22 ·
Rank: Questing Paladin
Classification: Leader of the Realm
Equipment: Sword of the Quest, Shield, Warhorse
Vows and Virtues: Questing Vow
Total Cost: 134
Tactical Advise: Hunt for missle weapons, flanks, and Chariot types
Extra Notes: I put him with 5 Knights of the Realm with full command and Banner of Chalon.
Because he has the Questing Vow, he cannot join the KoTR unit.

#19 ·
Rank: Lord
Classification: Monster Killer
Equipment: Sword of the Lady's Champion, Armour of Agilulf, Warhorse
Vows and Virtues: Grail Vow, Virtue of Audacity
Total Cost: 247
Tactical Advice: Aim at a big scary monster and let lose with 4 attacks that hit and wound on 3+ and can be rerolled against anyone who is S5 or above. Works best against riderless monsters, especially giants.
Extra Notes: For a more fluffy Dragon Slayer, the Dragon's Talon works fine as a replacement for AoA and gives him extra protection.

#21 ·
You can put a questing or grail with lower knights but you cant put lower knight with questing or grail. ex. Grail pallies or lords with grail, questing, KotR, and/or errants. Questing pallies or lords with questing knights, KotR, or errants. Knightly Pallies or lords can go with KotR or Errants. Any character including damsels and phrophetess, may join a peasent unit.

Been a long time since anyone has posted in this thread, and its stickied, so I don't feel like its thread-o-mancy.

I've been out of the circut for awhile now, and I'm finally getting some games in with 8th Edition (mostly with Dark Elves) but I still think we should explore some of the new builds available to our force in this edition which has mostly nerfted our army, but given us a few good things.

Rank: Bretonnian Lord
Classification: Roving Slayer
Equipment: Grail Shield, Obsidian Trinket, Lance, Royal Pegasus
Vows and Virtues: Grail Vow, Virtue of Heroism
Total Cost: 284
Tactical Advise: This fellow can really lay some hurt down with his high mobility, magic resistance (1), 4+ ward Save and 3+ Armor save (remember than in 8th riding monstrous cavalry or monsters in general gives a +1 armor save). Heroic Killing Blow (which is what the virtue now does according to the FAQ) works on all targets, so you can target monsters, warmachine crews or even random blokes.
Extra Notes: Another rule note, riding the Pegasus is different than how it was before, in the old edition they were two separate models, and now they are just like regular cavalry, using one set of wounds.

Rank: Paladin
Classification: Wyrm Champion
Equipment: Wyrmlance, Dragon Helm, Shield, Royal Pegasus
Vows and Virtues: Knight's Vow, Virtue of Purity
Total Cost: 160
Tactical Advise: This guy is actually pretty neat, almost a miniature dragon. He's got the Wyrmlance, giving him a breath weapon, which I understand is much improved over the last edition, and he has flaming attacks to negate regeneration, and boasts a 2+ armor save, 5+ ward vs any strength, and a 2+ ward vs fire attacks, niffty. He also adopts the Pegasus's 3 wounds for his own, making for a surprisingly durable hero choice. Taking Paladin's on a Royal Pegasus seems like a solid idea nowadays, what experiences have y'all had with these?

So come on fellow Brett's, lets see those more recent Lord and Hero builds!

#25 ·
Rank: Lord
Classification: Hero/Monster Hunter
Equipment: Warhorse,Silver
Lance of the Blessed, Grail Shield
Vows and Virtues: Grail Vow+Virtue of Heroism
Total Cost: 299
Tactical Advise: Stick him in a block of Grail Knights and hunt down Monsters and/or Heroes
Extra Notes: He has a 1+ AS 4+ ward. With 4 attacks all auto hitting he then has heroic killing blow (FAQ'ed to Virtue of heroism Confers Heroic Killing Blow and you can have a magic weapon).

I think this guy has too many points in magic items/virtues

Rank: Lord
Classification: Hero/Monster Hunter
Equipment: Warhorse,Silver
Lance of the Blessed, Grail Shield
Vows and Virtues: Grail Vow+Virtue of Heroism
Total Cost: 299
Tactical Advise: Stick him in a block of Grail Knights and hunt down Monsters and/or Heroes
Extra Notes: He has a 1+ AS 4+ ward. With 4 attacks all auto hitting he then has heroic killing blow (FAQ'ed to Virtue of heroism Confers Heroic Killing Blow and you can have a magic weapon).

#28 ·
Rank: Lord/ 225 points
Classification: Berserk Charger
Equipment: Barded Warhorse, Shield, Lance, Potion of Foolhardiness, Cuirass of Fortune, Tress of Isoulde
Virtue: Virtue of Knightly Temper
Notes: This Guy is CAAAARAZY on the charge. So on the charge you pop the potion to give you Immune to Psychology, great againts Fear and Terror models, and +1 Attack from the Devastating Charge. Now you are sitting with 5 WS6 S6 I6 attacks. I usually play against WoC, so I will challenge the Champion and attack first. Tress of Isoulde lets you hit your challenger on 2+, and Re-roll to hit from higher Initiative. Re-roll to wound on 1's with the Cuirass of Fortune. You will get through with at least 3 if not four wounds then the fun starts. Make you extra 3 to 4 attacks, same process, from your Virtue. Lets just say you get through with 2 or 3 this time. In total the challenger is looking at 5-7 wounds which are taken at -3 Armor save.

#29 ·
Rank: Paladin
Classification: the eater of flamers
Equipment: Warhorse, sheild, dragonhelm, dawnstone, great weapon
Virtue: questing vow
Notes: at range, he has a 1+ re rollable followed by a 2++ ward against flaming attacks, I always take him against demons and run him solo, he ate up two units of flamers and skulltaker alone

#30 ·
Rank: Lord 290 ish (i think dont have the book with me)
Classification: Dueling Lord/ Wizard Hunter
Equipment: Barded Warhorse or Royal Pegasus, Shield, Gromiril Great Helm, Birthsword of Carcossone, Gauntlet of Duel, Grail Vow
Virtue: Virtue of Confidence
Notes: This guys gets either a 1+ or 2+ survey depending on the mount. i run him with the pegasus b/c i play RAF which makes him more expensive but can easily throw him on a warhorse. The grail vow is useful for terror/fear enemies. Always challange the enemy lord and he CANT REFUSE. He gets to reroll to hits and wounds and armor saves. IN addition the enemy has to reroll their SUCCESSFUL ARMOR saves. Great for killing slann who like to run or high powered mages. There are a few Lords who might have initiative on you but with a good AS and the ward save of the blessing plus the reroll you should be fine.

DONT FORGET TO LET YOUR HORSE GET HIS ATTACK Too. Many time i have had the horse throw on a wound. Also with PK if its an infatry lord you get stomp on the end of the challange as well. hehe.
