Is there a way, preferably cheap, of sealing models? What I mean is, is there some sort of coating one can apply to their models to keep paint from being scratched off in game play? Thanks.

Maybe...but the gloss varnish will make your models look a little strange and it'll be harder to see any detail in your model. I'd go with a caot of watered down PVC glue (about 1/3 glue to 2/3 water) and after that dried then spray it with Dullcote or Krylon Crystal Clear.
Nothing is ever going to make your models completely, 100% scratch-proof, but something I find works pretty well is giving the models 2 coats of GW Purity Seal, then a coat of Testor's Dullcote.
Purity Seal gives a nice strong seal and solid defence, and the Dullcote takes the gloss completely out of them.
I've had great luck with Krylon dull coat matte finish. it helps cover small brush strokes also.
