I think that...

XV15 vs. XV25

So I was looking through some pics on the interwebs, and I found one of the old XV15. Somehow I had completely forgotten our old stealth suits.

I personally weep at the loss of the XV-15 for the new XV-25. I think the XV-15 looks a whole lot more stealthy, and a lot more bad-assery then the bulky and clumbsy looking XV-25.

What does everyone else think?

Only advantage of the XV-25 models is that they are plastic and not the god forsaken metal figures like the XV-15. That not withstanding based on looks which do you prefer?

Now i had to look at some painted ones to decide and although i prefer the XV-25 i love the stealth look of this one

I love this conversion. I think it combines some of the best elements of both the XV15 and XV25 and since I use the XV25 heads for conversions to my Crisis suits, I may be working up some new stealth suit conversions.

Partial to the XV25s myself. The XV15 don't actually look "stealthy" in the technological sense. Modern stealth systems don't rely entirely on technogizmos to protect them, they go to great lengths to obscure the physical profile of the object. Usually a bizarre combination of utterly smooth curves and hard angles is employed.

The XV15s look like Fire Warriors carrying a big gun.
The XV25s are clearly battlesuits designed for a purpose. The "egg shape" -- and the way it contrasts with the other Tau battlesuits -- suggests that stealth is specifically designed into the suit.

My other issue with the XV15s is that the battlesuit really just looks like slightly bulkier Fire Warrior body armour. Heck, the head is all but totally identical! How does the wearer use the suit? It doesn't suggest complex technology nor enhanced physical attributes. Again, the XV25 actually looks like a suit of powered armour, and so is superior by my way of thinking.

Clearly, YMMV! :rotfl: Just my take on things. I didn't bother owning any stealth models until the release of the XV25s. Never liked the XV15s ... it was -- and remains -- the one model in the Tau line I have never liked.

I agree that it doesn't look "suit-like" .

The stealth issue is another matter. I am almost positive they get stealth from a "stealth field generator", not the physical design of the suit.

How can the 25's be considered stealth-ie They are far too chunky. I'm an XV-15 man any day.
Last 2 games I've had with Tau my 15's have saved the day for me. I borrowed a friends army after that, used his 25s...they got massacred.
XV-15's are more steath like. More Tau looking and mine will always be my babies.

Real stealth suits would have finished that dreadnought off...only its weapons gone...pfft...

(N.B. The Dread got renamed from its original Imperial name to "Zinidine" after the infamous French footballer...as this dread went about and headbutted my hammerhead out the game. then completely restricted my movement. NOT COOL)

Stealth is a large combination of things. They get a stealth field generator for visual camo, but stealth also requires silence, know how, and a degree of agility.

The XV-25 looks restrictive to the wearer's vision, movement, and generally seems large and 'badassery' as opposed to compact and practical which is what anyone trying for stealth would prefer.

However I love the Firewarrior's armor, and the similarity between them and the firewarriors is actually a plus to my mind. I also love infantry over battlesuits and armor, and the XV-15 seems like specially armed infantry. However I can see the point that they look like heavy weapon Firewarriors, and I will agree... which is probably why I love them so much :p

I like the Xv25 actually. The stealthsuits are mostly stealthy from advanced technology anyway, not from having a sleeker profile. The Xv15 look too much like normal firewarriors and I find the new armour of the Xv25's pretty badass and it provides them with a characteristic style suit. It also justifies the 3+ save and strenght 4 more than the stealth fire warrior X15's.
