Galrauch Thoughts

So, I have a big tourney coming up in two months. Its the premier tourney round these parts and Ive strayed more towards fun lists lately.

Now, I dont use warriors. I play Trolls. I love MI,MC,MB,Mon lists. I cant even remember the last time i took an actual warrior in my army lists.

SO, that being said i have a hard time bunkering wizards, usually I just take a level 1 with a dispel scroll and Miasma and he sits behind the horde of trolls so he cant get shot easily.

Now ive been considering taking Galrauch because, well, hes a Monster and a mage! Now i know that the lore of Tzeentch is not in high favour, but I think it is still viable for destroying big monsters.

This tourney allows scrolls of binding to be used in your rare slot, so I can expect to see ltos of big monsters like mammoths and bonegrinders etc...

Apart from the Leadership test at the start of the phase, which can be handled by a BSB, and the fact that you have a giant cannon target on your face, what are your thoughts on this guy?

I think that his breath of change is actually quite broken. If you charged into a single model monster, or get a Huge gribbly lord in a challenge, its 2d6 Toughness tests or just straight up dead. Im pretty sure that would kill almost anything.

I have a lot of experience in keeping big guys out of LoS and keeping them alive. I play Kholek a lot and he doesnt die very often at all, with galrauch flying i imagine it would be just as easy to keep him alive.

anyway...What are your general thoughts on this guy? anything I'm overlooking?

Ahh the old blood and glory problem. I usually take my BSB on a jug in a unit of SkullCrushers, plus my general is 4. If i pull BnG i jsut keep them back till I've neutralized any threats. Luckily my Meta isnt big on the BRB scenarios, most tourneys have custom scenarios and there are very few of a blood and glory type.

The Dread Saurians been nerfed so you can't make it ethereal, it is pretty awesome though.

The other idea i was tossing around was two hordes of trolls with 2 mournguls. The mourngul has a special rule that any model in base contact has always strikes last, would go great with I1 trolls.

Then i was tossing around the idea of a level 2 emperor dragon with lore of light and a shit ton of trolls, but i dont know the kind of chances of getting useful spells out of it and its like ~740pts

Ettins are pretty hard core and you can make it a LVL1 Beast Shaman for awesome-sauce Wildform on Trolls. Scout is also sick on a model that size. they are expensive though but at T6, 8W and a 5+ regen they very hard to take down. He might be a good bet to distract attention away from galrauch if you take him.

As for Galrauch. Eh. i'd rather take a Tzeentch Daemon Prince with the Lore of Tzeentch. Purely because the Lore of Tzeentch is pretty sucky. Other than that though he's not bad. He's only packing a 3+/6+ but has T6 and 6W to compensate. he also has more attacks than a Prince and has 2 Breath weapons which is awesome.

I've been playing a dragon myself for a while now and their great if escorted by two chimerae. Use them as a tag team and your in for some great fun.
As for cannons well yes thats a jiffy but with any army they are so you shouldn't be to concerned about that, sh"#t happens.

He does, at str8 :D Although if you make him a Wizard you lose that HKB rule. However having such a big gribbly and a caster AND something that gives everything near him -1LD is pretty awesome to have lurking in their lines on turn 1. He'd probably be pretty good to use in conjunction with some Hell Cannons thinking about it.

Yeah, the Toad Dragon didn't actually kill much as he was just fighting cavalry. The only thing he managed to stomp on was a unit of 5 Dogs. He was just an arse to kill. My Lord with 8 str8 attacks and ASF only took 4 wounds off and then I was just hacking away for 3 rounds of combat wounding on 6's. My mate also got off a spell that made me re-roll 6's to wound that saved it's bacon in the last round.

Compared to slaanesh and nurgle, tzeentch comes in at a distant 3rd place for power, but it is still a very nasty lore. Stealing spells, taking away leadership and BSB abilities are terrific spells. And you are 100% correct, it destroys monsters easily. Also counters demon princes handily. You can hit him 3 times with gateway before the regen starts to get better than his ward and by then he should be dead.
