Anyone have any recommendations for a good sword and board warrior? I like GWs but they are a little bland and I want some spice in my army. Going to be painting them tz so no nurgle stuff please (I know AoW have some awesome ones).

Feel free to post some pictures of what you guys use for your tz sword and board if it's a conversion or alternate model range :)

The GW stuff is bland? I think if anyone responds, it's mostly going to be conversions of the regular GW models, because there's really nothing else out there that comes close. Warriors are one thing they've definitely got on lock-down in terms of visuals. Nothing else really fits that heavily-armored-warrior feel quite like the GW sculpts.

It will be interesting to see what kind of responses you get though, in terms of possible conversions and maybe some line that I wasn't aware of.

Sarathai's pretty much nailed it already. There isn't a great deal out there to be honest and what is out there is quite expensive as it's Resin or........ is just expensive.

I did A quick good search on "Chaos Warrior Alternatives" and got these....

These models are 34mm scale but, hey, who cares. It's chaos.

LINKY GameZone does some Warrior models as well. Questionable sculpting though but fitting with the old old Citadel mini's.

I wasn't too keen on the current GW Warriors because they're rather static/mono-pose, but not sure I'd call them bland. I tried looking for alternatives, but couldn't find much. In the end, my Warriors are based on GW's old OOP plastics, converted with some newer parts (weapons, shields, usually heads):

Maybe if you can say more about why you dislike the GW models and/or what you are looking for, it will make it easier to help, but as others have said there isn't much out there so perhaps nothing fits what you're after.

I second (or third, as it seems) the AoW versions for a great alternative. I have the Halberd Warriors and was lucky to have gotten them preorder, so the heads were separate and a few extra options. I think now they have simplified the bits a little (?), but still they are great minis.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies!
I guess it's not that the warriors from GW are bland...but they are seen so often that even when they are painted great at a big tourney they usually don't get the recognition they deserve (it breaks my heart). People tend to think "oh just rank and file warriors, but took at his chimera!" (just an example of what your center piece might be). The GW warriors are actually the models that got me into warhammer and were the first models I even owned since they just had been released. I just feel as though they are too static for what I want my army to feel like. I want there to be a feeling of chaos! And I want to have people stop by and look at my models because they pop out from the crowd.

I do love the AoW models, but didn't they used to have just basic (if you can call them that) warriors? Not the Corrupters (the ones that look very nurglish)

Check out ebay... the old Marauder line from GW had tons of different poses and sculpts. All of them lead and nice and heavy. I have entire regiments of warriors and marauders where no two poses are alike. I love the look of the old Marauder figs... in fact, 80% of my 500+ beastmen models are the old soft lead Marauder kits.

Swapping pieces between warriors/knights/marauders, cutting off the helmet horns *cringe*, extra banner bits from GW, and even the 40k range ... They're plastic, so a little time spent converting, goes a -long- way.

They're going to be a little odd stacking up next to normal warriors, I think. They're 34mm tall, but reviews have put the entire Tre Manor range at 28mm non-heroic, which means that they'll have finer features and look smaller overall. The barbarians at 34mm might be pretty big though, and make up for it.

Rackham also has some really nice chaos-y models, but good luck finding them, and cutting them up should be considered treason.

Hmmm I may have to look into what you all posted. Seems to be some good models out there! The unit I'm intending on having will be the only unit of warriors in the army for this list so it can be a little out of scale with the other warriors. Has anyone tried doing conversion work with the chosen models from GW to give them sword and board? I have always loved those models and never got around to buying any.
